Local Arrangements

Dear Fukushima Workshop Participants,

Greetings from the Center for Science, Technology, Medicine, and Society (CSTMS) at Berkeley. We are your host for the upcoming workshop that will take place at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) Conference room (and many of you will be staying at the LBL Guest House, a very short walk from the conference room).

Attached is a file with Travel Info. For those of you flying into San Francisco (SFO) or Oakland (OAK), the first page will tell you how to take the Bay Area Rapid Transit

(BART) system from the airport to Berkeley. For those of you arriving on Saturday or Sunday, the LBL Guest House provides a free taxi service. Just stay at the Downtown Berkeley BART station and call from there. During the week days you’ll be able to take the LBL Blue Shuttle up and down the hill. You will need to show your id and your LBL pass which will come by email from the Guest House.

A few notes about meals. Here is what we’ll be providing for you:

  • On Saturday evening we’ll have a reception up at the LBL Guest House that includes light appetizers and drinks.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the workshop on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (on Tuesday you can take a box lunch with you as you leave since the workshop ends at 10:30 am).
  • Sunday evening we’ll be having a reception before Dr Suzuki’s lecture down on campus—again, this will consist of light appetizers.
  • You’ll be on your own for dinner on Sunday. Please consider using this time to connect with other workshop participants.
  • On Monday, there will be two semi-organized field trips into San Francisco, which may include dinner. Please speak to Atsushi for details. If you remain in Berkeley, please do as you did on Sunday, connecting with others for dinner if you wish.

If you have other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask. May you have safe travel. We look forward to seeing you for the workshop.
